Overall languages decline masking slight growth in some areas

Good to see some areas of growth and delighted to see the expansion of teaching in "translation", possibly indicating a more skills approach in language development with an emphasis for commercial use. Does anyone know where linguistics comes into this and if AI is being used to aid translation of documents and how this links to language teaching? I think the time has come for centres of excellence to be established for the teaching of Chinese and other far eastern languages and the promotion of teaching Chinese in schools. I wonder if linking spoken and written language teaching to the teaching of computer related languages has any benefit?
