I cannot decide if this is true optimism or whether it is trying to encourage optimism. As a secondary teacher of French in Scotland, with decreasing uptake and ever shrinking resources I find it difficult to remain upbeat. At the chalkface, the reality is one of obstinate muted cultural apathy towards otherness and anything not in English.
