“As soon as you take an oath, you are calling for God.” - Surely you can swear by anything you hold dear - the principle of laicity for example - if God is not good enough for Dr Blondel or his colleagues.

If you are honest in your academic endevours, you might as well take an oath to breathe in and out... you are going to act that way anyway. If you aren't, it doesn't matter how many oaths you swear, you'll still go on your own merry way.
