Interesting but a lot more work at a deeper level needs to be done to ascertain why this is happening.
It seems they cannot see the difference is whom the 'advantaged' know from childhood, and their familial connections often going back generations, even when they are as thick as two short planks those things make a huge difference.
Why does anyone find this surprising? A degree is not the magic wand the receipt of which guarantees one's entry to some higher realm of income and status... it's just a measure of competency... and given that some 50% of the Australian population now has a degree, it's not much of a measure. Cultural capital trumps competence every time.
