General Requirements

Candidates should have a relevant PhD degree in Finance and relevant discipline, with outstanding research and teaching potentials.

Lingnan University has a strong commitment to teaching and research excellence. The appointee is expected to contribute to the Department, the Faculty of Business, and the University by securing external competitive research grants, publishing papers in top academic journals, teaching relevant courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and engaging in some service activities. In addition, excellent communication and presentation skills are highly desirable. A candidate holds distinct advantages if he or she has an impressive publication record, professional qualifications (e.g., CFA), administrative and teaching experiences, and/or close relationships with financial institutions in Hong Kong and with the major professional bodies.

The School of Data Science (SDS) is committed to becoming the premier incubator for data innovation in Asia. Our mission is to nurture leading data scientists through an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters ethical, critical and strategic thinking. The SDS comprises two divisions: the Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Division of Industrial Data Science, as well as the LEO Dr David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/sds/leodcids/home) aims to (i) provide education service; (ii) empower researchers; (iii) cultivate new collaborations, and (iv) perform academic research in some selected areas of data science.

The appointee will join the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science and will be expected to:

(i) carry out research and submit papers to top journals in the field of large vision models or large language models. Additionally, the appointee will be responsible for submitting grant proposals to various funding bodies. Furthermore, the appointee will have the opportunity to organize conferences, seminars, reading groups, workshops, and other related research activities;

(ii) play a central role in the daily operation of the upcoming new Taught Postgraduate programme(s) offered by the Division of Artificial Intelligence/ LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science. The teaching load will be two courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Institute and upon mutual agreement. English will be the medium of instruction. The appointee will also be required to supervise students’ projects or thesis; and

(iii) perform administrative duties as assigned by the Director of the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science.

General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a PhD degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant discipline; (ii) a good command of both English and Chinese; (iii) a strong publication record in the top-tier journals/conferences in the relevant field; and (iv) experience in developing external competitive research proposals. Candidates with a good teaching record will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the CIO & University Librarian, the Associate Director (Application Development) for the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) will lead the strategic development, design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications and software solutions critical to the university’s academic, administrative, and research operations. This role demands a visionary leader with robust technical expertise, exceptional management skills, strong leadership skills and a passion for leveraging technology to address institutional challenges. The successful candidate will oversee a team of developers, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centric applications aligned with Lingnan’s institutional goals. The appointee is required to deliver the following key responsibilities:


	Application Development Leadership:

	
		Lead and manage the ITSC’s application development team of over 16 developers, ensuring delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centric software solutions
		Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and post-launch support
		Steer the migration to a new Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system including planning for data migration, system integration with existing ERP and other internal systems, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, testing, and implementation while ensuring smooth operation of the university during migration
		Lead initiatives related to digital transformation, process automation, and integration with existing systems, fostering innovation across the University
		Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, DevOps, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
	
	
	Strategic Planning:
	
		Support the CIO & University Librarian to develop and execute a technology roadmap that aligns with Lingnan’s strategic goals
		Identify and integrate emerging technologies (e.g. cloud computing, AI and data analytics) to optimize university operations and user experiences
	
	
	Stakeholder Engagement:
	
		Collaborate with academic faculties, administrative units, research staff and other stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver tailored IT solutions
		Build strong partnerships with vendors, external developers, and industry experts to ensure successful project outcomes
		Project and Resource Management:
		Develop and manage budgets and resource allocations for application development projects
		Lead multiple high-priority projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and alignment with quality standards
		Proactively identify risks, resolve bottlenecks, and communicate progress to stakeholders
	
	
	Team Development:
	
		Mentor and inspire the ITSC application development team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
		Conduct performance reviews, set professional development goals, and provide constructive feedback
	
	
	Compliance and Security:
	
		Ensure all applications comply with university policies, data privacy regulations (e.g. PDPO, GDPR and PIPL), and cybersecurity best practices
		Implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive university and user data

Requirements


	A recognized degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
	At least 15 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing application development or similar functions
	Proven track record in successfully leading large-scale IT projects from conception to implementation, preferably in an academic or research environment
	Experience in ERP migration is highly desirable
	Expertise in enterprise systems (e.g. ERP, LMS and CRM), Agile/Scrum methodologies, DevOps practices, and modern programming languages (e.g. Java, Python and .NET)
	Proficiency in database systems (SQL and Oracle), web technologies (HTML5 and JavaScript frameworks), cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) and API development
	Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with strong ability to engage diverse stakeholders
	Outstanding project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget
	Certifications such as PMP, Scrum Master, or ITIL, and knowledge of AI, machine learning, or data analytics tools is preferred

Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute (PSEI) aims to promote policy-related research on economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong. It will synergise resources and expertise in the Mainland and Hong Kong to strengthen research on salient issues related to the economic and financial development of the two places. It will also provide research consultancy on industry and economic policies, in addition to offering policy advice to the authorities to foster mutual prosperity of the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The Institute is seeking an outstanding scholar with distinguished scholarly accomplishment in research, teaching and knowledge exchange in the field of policy-related research on economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong. The appointee will be appointed as a Professor in the Department of Economics and concurrently as Director of the PSEI.

The Director of PSEI will be expected to (i) provide strategic direction and leadership for the operation of the Institute to ensure research quality and effectiveness; (ii) formulate and implement strategies for networking and building rapport with academia, business sector, industries and other related stakeholders; (iii) explore new collaboration opportunities with community partners and stakeholders and (iv) identify and secure funding opportunities through grants, partnerships and sponsorships to support the research projects/programmes and various activities of the Institute.

General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a doctoral degree in engineering, data science, computer science, business, information systems, artificial intelligence, or other relevant areas; (ii) a minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching relevant courses and relevant programme administrative experience; and (iii) good command of English and Chinese (including Mandarin). Candidates who possess a strong academic background but have less teaching experience, or those with lower qualifications but substantial teaching experience, will also be considered.
