CityUHK has transformed itself over the past 30 years into one of the world’s most dynamic young universities, producing excellent graduates trained in a vast range of disciplines and offering elite academics the space, time and resources to pursue their research ambitions.
Our mission and maxim
Our mission is to respond to the rapid societal and technological changes taking place around us by generating knowledge, understanding and technologies, particularly in globally significant areas such as sustainability, energy and innovation.
The guiding maxim at CityUHK is that our students don’t simply earn a degree; they receive a life-enhancing education that prepares them for rewarding careers and enriched lives. This comprehensive education encourages students to immerse themselves in learning that has the potential todrive scientific, technological and/or social impact.
Innovating innovative innovation
Our pioneering spirit is exemplified by many achievements for Hong Kong. We established the city’s first College of Veterinary Medicine in collaboration with our long-term partner, Cornell University, and founded Hong Kong’s first School of Energy and Environment, as well as the School for Creative Media.
In addition, our newly established Academy of Innovation offers a range of cutting-edge academic programmes at the PhD, Master of Science, and undergraduate levels, focusing on deep-tech venture creation. At the same time, our groundbreaking Institute of Digital Medicine is advancing the convergence of healthcare and digital innovation through strategic partnerships with leading academic, clinical, and industry collaborators worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study adds an impressive intellectual dimension to campus life, marking a new phase in promoting innovative research in strategic areas. The Institute regularly hosts world-leading scholars, Nobel laureates, and academicians.
Researching without borders
CityUHK’s research endeavours are further enriched by the expertise gathered at our two State Key Laboratories: one for Terahertz and Millimeter Waves and the other for Marine Pollution. Additional research hubs include the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre and the Hong Kong Branch of the National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Centre.
Our growing global presence has accelerated our drive towards internationalisation. CityUHK (Dongguan) is cementing our presence within the Greater Bay Area, while partnerships with elite institutions such as the University of Cambridge, other Russell Group universities, and leading institutions in Europe, South Africa, Asia and North America are expanding our reach and promoting our dynamic brand.
Our momentum shows no signs of slowing. As we continue to expand our campus physically, we are creating more space for research laboratories and collaborative learning opportunities. We welcome students and academics from all points of the compass who are eager to collaborate with us on areas of mutual interest.
