Well Good Luck with that Sir Patrick! Such naivety!! They will eat him for breakfast.
Yes the days when HMG and its functionnaries could lecture China from a position of influence are long gone and the flow of power is in the other direction. The "UK will never tolerate ...." What a joke.
The register rather reminds me of that of Lord Palmerston sending the gunboats in during the First Opium War allegedly to protect "free trade" in 1839.
We are reliably informed that Sir Patrick is currently practicing his kowtow for his reception at this very moment.
