If you want to be an opera producer, Nottingham is not the place.
What kind of society do you want to build by scrapping such courses? Doing away with modern languages, nursing programs and music, really? Sacrificing your children’s health and mental health? What next? It looks like a suicidal plan for the future.
I agree with your views. In an ideal world the Government should be stepping in to stop these closures. This is happening in other universities as well- what is going to be the resultant national offering in these important subjects? This is an example of universities having too much autonomy.
I have seen reports mentioning that the relevant departments are closing, which is not true and in the case of languages, the programmes might not exist anymore but the language offerings are still there as part of optional modules for students to choose. Interesting how these 'details' have been missed...
