Please translate "help democratise science careers" into clear English. I see neither factual nor logic basis here. I do see a comparison of apples and elephants. Over and over. Who will learn to use AI responsibly? Those who are taught well. Class and other biases will continue to grown. Technology by itself does not lead to change. Human use--occasionally but infrequently equitable--sometimes does.
Surely almost all UK science degrees offer a research experience as part of the core curriculum? Students on out 4 year program get two. I'm not really sure how AI can help provide more experience. We have two undergraduate summer studentship programs, one aimed specifically at underrepresented groups. By a mile,m the biggest cost of them is the stipend the student recieves to allow them to live for a summer without a job. I don't see how AI could change that.
