How uninformed on all counts! Employed on day after grad? One year? Five years? All comparisons are invalid. Unless that is, one determines lifetime earnings taking into account job changes and the role of gender among other variables. ROI is among the most dangerous myths of our times.
I see an assumption that the individuals serving as internals on their university boards are representative of general academic opinion. That is also not necessarily true: many/most academics are unaware of these senior-management mechanisms and steer clear in order to have time to do their specialist work; there can hence also be an internal self-selection.
This leads to the need for competency based learning out comes to steer student academic achievement. This can still be underscored ((sorry no AI here !) by the academic cognitive LO rigour, for example the revised Blooms Taxonomy. It is not a case of one or the other yet many universities get stuck on critical analysis and evaluation, to do what where when ? The top skills going forward are no doubt will be Critical thinking AI Digital literate Emotional intelligence and adaptability , hard to find in more established as you were learning out comes . …
