Another author obsessed with an entirely arbitrary great circle around the earth. Perhaps you might consider that institutions "south of the equator" have their own priorities, collaborators in their region and no need or interest in working with institutions "north of the equator" with who they lack interests and that the governments that fund them might have their own priorities. Where investigators in different continents do wish to collaborate they can and have found ways to make this happen. Try rewriting the article with "east and west" in place of "north" and "south" relative say to the international dateline
