Most people see the need for research and development, including "deep tech" but fewer see the need or sense for more of it to be done by increasing University research funding. Universities are in competition with businesses and other institutions for Government research funds. When it comes to " calls for a 20 per cent increase in quality-related research funding, a guarantee of full funding for UK participation in the European Union’s Horizon Europe scheme for the full duration of the programme, and delivery on “the long-standing commitments to fund public grants for research at a minimum of 80 per cent of full economic costs”. " I think it goes too far. Does anyone understand what "quality related research funding" is? Is "80% of full economic costs" value for money for tax payers or is it better to go for R & D Tax Credits?
