It is worth reminding ourselves that UUK and UA Mission Group proposed the introduction of a short term SNC in order to stabilise the admissions process. This was considered bu the Boards and then discussed with DfE and the University Minister. Whilst accepting it is not perfect we have to accept that the actions of some universities triggered the concerns. As a sector we are encouraged to self-regulator and to act within an ecosystem for the benefit of students and society as a whole. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the consultation and the considered views of colleagues as they offer alternative solutions that could be used. Just saying 'No' is not that helpful under the current circumstances and I am confident that the consultation will take on board valid alternatives.
Has the 'office for students' done anything that is HELPFUL to Higher Education? What, indeed, are their credentials for meddling?
“How can institutions make decisions if they are trying to guess what would happen if others did the same?” Perhaps they should contact their philosophy departments and gen up on their Kant.
The Office for Students yet another bureaucratic waste of taxpayers money. It is now time to get rid of the QAA and OfS and all the bureaucracy they create. So much money is wasted by Universities on silly meetings, bureaucracy and reporting to keep these two bodies happy. It is now time to slash all this nonsense and free up the money for the frontline academics and students. We do not need this huge wastage any more.
