Sadly UCU has been taken over by the UCU-Left group and its sympathisers who have the General Secretary in their pocket and care little about the real interests or concerns of the majority of the membership. They are using the union to press a political agenda of strikes come what may which is alien to most members and will inevitably have negative consequences. They have been threatening to do this for a long time but have been prevented by not quite having a majority on the National Executive Committee and also facing the oppostion of the paid leadership (Gen Sec, etc). Now they have that majority and no opposition from the leadership. Bad times and even bankruptcy (they're spending money on these ballots and other associated activities like there's no tomorrow) are upcoming.
