Or we could end the whole zero-sum game of academics having to spend hours in fruitless applications (the absurdly low success rate of ca. 5% makes it in fact a negative-sum game) by making more funding and time available for research from the university / government itself. Research grants/time to come automatically with seniority plus some for aspiring junior researchers. When food is scarce, people will eat dirt - even Epsteinian dirt.
