A professor of accounting at Portsmouth University has won the Deloitte Wildman Medal sponsored by the American Accounting Association (AAA). Stella Fearnley collected the prize, which comes with a $7,500 honorarium, during the Annual Meeting of the AAA in Chicago this month. Her book, Behind Closed Doors: What Company Audit is Really About , was written with Portsmouth colleague Richard Brandt and Vivien Beattie of Glasgow University.

  • James Shields, reader in French studies at Warwick University, has won the $2,000 American Political Science Association's Stanley Hoffmann Award for the best article on French politics across Anglophone political science in 2005-06 ("Political representation in France: A crisis of democracy?", which was published in the journal Parliamentary Affairs ).
