A US university is considering whether to accept funding from tobacco companies. The University of California is attempting to find a compromise between academic freedom to accept research funding and ethical concerns about taking money from the firms. The university's board of regents hope to have a compromise between the two positions at their next meeting in September. There had previously been a plan to hold a vote for or against accepting the funds.
