In fact, academics generally do not produce anything useful to any country.
Since when did 'loyalty to the state' include slavish acceptance of any polititician's or party's views without critical analysis?
It seems strange to say that the majority opinion, gauged by election results, is "extreme". However, if one takes "extreme" as a negative way of saying "principled", there might be some truth in it. I wonder how many modern right-wing academic or historical books - e.g. those recently removed from sale by Amazon, are on university reading lists.
How many books have been removed due to left wing students demands might be a good question, they certainly don't like the principle of academic freedom when it's anyone to the right of Stalin.
