The author would agree that he has omitted an important aspect of the issue, which is the high corruption strifing Institutions in southern Italy. The same leaders that complain about unequal distribution of resources are those that assign roles to their nephews etc. Moreover, Southern Italy produces more graduates compared to the North, who are often forced to offer their labour in Northern Italy or abroad.
An easy computation from the national databases of students (anagrafe.miur.it) and professors (http://cercauniversita.cineca.it/php5/docenti/cerca.php) disproves what the spokeswoman for Italy’s Ministry of Education said. In fact, the data show that the distributions of students and professors in Italian universities is the following: STUDENTS 43,8% in Northern Italy 23,8% in Central Italy 32,5% in Southern Italy PROFESSORS 44,0% in Northern Italy 24,5% in Central Italy 31,5% in Southern Italy
