Guilford is entitled to his views but they are not necessarily representative. If the NZ universities have an ounce of sense they will forge links with Asia whist maintaining links with Europe and N America. Unfortunately we suffer from the same problem as many universities, as noted in your article by John Douglass. Academics are promoted into positions where they lack the necessary skills to perform well.
