Unfair dismissal award

A senior lecturer from Liverpool Hope University has been awarded £55,000 by an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal.

Brenda Ashton, 53, resigned as director of the Centre for English Language at Liverpool Hope University College in August 2003, claiming she had been victimised.

A Liverpool Hope spokesman said that the tribunal's three-member panel had ruled 2-1 in favour of Mrs Ashton.
