Is it time we ditched honorary degrees?

I would permanently do away with them but it is rare to see any support for this. I would also do the same with the "honours" system more widely which seems totally anachronistic. By the way, I would classify myself as radical right rather than left so this has nothing to do with an idealistic level society but rather with rewarding hard work by extra opportunity and income rather than with meaningless baubles.
