An administrative hiccup at the University of Santiago, Chile, has left 157 students without a place, despite obtaining full entrance requirements. A further 159 were forced to enrol at other universities and 160 were allowed to enrol at Santiago on condition that they choose alternative courses. Student union representatives are demanding a response from education minister Mariana Aylwin who, they claim, knew of the problem as early as last April but failed to take action.
