Wellcome funds free genome software

The Wellcome Trust will spend Pounds 8 million over five years to make freely available to researchers a computer program to analyse the human genome.

The program, called Ensembl, locates active genes among "junk" DNA. Ensembl has been used to complete a full analysis of the first working draft of the human genome. The investment will pay for more staff and computing power.
