Philippe Meirieu has resigned as head of France's National Institute of Pedagogical Research. Mr Meirieu was appointed by former minister for education and research Claude All gre to renovate the institute and make its research of more practical use in the classroom. But he says that since Mr All gre was replaced in March by Jack Lang, he received no support and could not carry on while feeling he had been "shot in the back".
