Colleges stick to 3% staff pay rises

* Three-quarters of colleges awarded staff a pay rise of 3 per cent or more last year, according to an Association of Colleges survey. It found that "almost" nine in ten colleges made a pay award for 1999-00, with nine making no award at all. College teachers still earn 7 per cent less than school teachers on average.
