A new underclass could be created in Northern Ireland, Queen's University's vice-chancellor George Bain has warned.

Professor Bain said that many people could be excluded as employment shifted to industries that relied on a well-educated workforce. He feared too many people were still leaving full-time education without qualifications.

The university sector needed the support of government and business to deliver the right students in the numbers needed for the new economy, he said.
