Al Hazar University, a world centre of Islamic learning, has denied women's medical school enrolment to a belly-dancer who had a sex-change operation, despite a Cairo court verdict in her favour. Al Hazar has appealed the decision on the grounds that Sally, formerly Sayed, Morsi "does not correspond to the religious and ethical criteria that guide the Islamic university".
