* Science minister Lord Sainsbury has announced the government is to step up efforts to promote industrial "hot spots". Building on a study of "clustering" in biotechnology, the initiative aims to identify which industrial sectors are growing. The Department of Trade and Industry is commissioning a study to see where these hotspots are and identify barriers, such as planning regulations, skills shortages and tax laws, to growth.
