SHEFC reassesses funding for teaching

* The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council plans to revamp its funding method for teaching to give more recognition to lifelong learning. SHEFC has decided in principle to shift to a new system based on credits attached to courses. At present, SHEFC's funding method is based on full-time equivalent student numbers, with part-time students calculated as a proportion of an FTE place. It is thought that a revamped system would be a more accurate way of measuring student time when increasing numbers of students may not want to take a full-time degree.
