Troops were called into the Universite Nationale Centre-Africaine in Bangui, capital of the francophone republic of Central Africa, to protect students from neighbouring Chad against reprisals for unfounded allegations of an attack on Central Africa students at the Universite Nationale in Ndjamena in Chad. Ange-Felix Patasse, president of the Central African republic, apologised on radio and television to Chadians for unfortunate and unwarranted molestation.
