Alan Stevens, UK chief executive of the IT services company EDS, will head an industry-led group set up to tackle skills shortages in information and communication technology and electronics. The group, which is part of the National Skills Taskforce, will examine the roles of public and private training providers and the IT National Training Organisation.

It will also look for ways to make IT careers more appealing to women and other under-represented groups.
