* Leading arts and social science staff have written to minister Baroness Blackstone calling for an arts and humanities research council for the UK.
The Standing Conference of Arts and Social Sciences welcomed the creation of an arts and humanities research board in England. But it said there are "potential problems linked to the hesitation of the Scottish and Welsh funding councils about whether to join in this initiative".
