Luton head announces retirement

Tony Wood, vice chancellor of Luton University, is to retire in August 1998. A successor is being sought by the university's board of governors. Dr Wood took over the institution in 1985 when it was Luton College of Higher Education. It achieved university status in 1993 and now has 15,000 students, 9,000 of whom are on full-time undergraduate programmes.
