Lack of flexibility criticised

THE UNIVERSITY system throughout Europe retains an "unattractive degree of inflexibility", according to a new survey from the European Science and Technology Assembly, which reports to the European Commission. It analyses the state of nine separate scientific subjects looking at their strengths and weaknesses. The report finds a strong need for interdisciplinarity and an erosion of the stability of career structure for scientific researchers throughout Europe in recent years.
