Part-time press gangs

As someone who has his own publishing operation and is a University researcher, I have come across situations in which articles submitted to academic journals have been turned down on grounds which I found improbable. Being able to publish one's own work and to circulate it is an immense advantage, especially if one can sell it to the libraries of the institutions that originally turned such work down.
