Physicists query profit of industrial work

THE FINANCIAL returns from industrial collaboration rarely justify the efforts involved, according to most physicists in a report commissioned by the Institute of Physics. The survey, carried out by the science policy research unit at Sussex University, also says that the priority for most physics researchers remains academic research and teaching rather than the development of industrial links.
