Almost all British academics in higher and further education think students' work is being harmed by hardship, and amajority think that the standing of British higher education is lower than in 1980, according to new THES research . But few favour concentrating research indepartments rated highly in the research assessment exercise. Most like the idea of employers contributing to the cost of higher education, while only a minority think students should payfor tuition.
