Willetts: Tories risking ‘red wall’ if they cut university places

The trouble is that "university" no longer means what it did when I was a student. It seems to be common to treat it as a precursor to a job and not an opportunity for personal development and study. We do need a more skilled workforce but sending so many of them to "university" and ruining the experience for true academic high-fliers is not the answer.
