White working-class men thrive on grants

White working-class males should be better encouraged to progress from further to higher education, an Institute for Public Policy Research seminar on widening access heard this week.

Mick Fletcher, development adviser at the Learning and Skills Development Agency, said that in further education, young white working-class males benefited most from the education maintenance allowances of £40 a week.
