Some of my academic colleagues absolutely block teaching as it is bound to boost grades and student satisfaction. However block teaching does not prepare students for the real world of work, where they cannot 'throw away' what they learn in a module taught in a block and then learn the next block's work. In the 1970s some subjects were taught across all 3 years and the finals papers contained questions that required a synthesis of what was taught in all three years. Learning had to be broad and deep across the whole degree and that really should be the case today.
