Sussex University gets new v-c

ALASDAIR Smith, 49, is the new vice-chancellor of the University of Sussex. Professor Smith has been professor of economics at Sussex since 1981, after working at the London School of Economics, and is the university's senior pro-vice-chancellor and acting vice-chancellor. He succeeds Gordon Conway, who became president of the Rockefeller Foundation in New York in March.
