Shish! Kebab cartoon skewers student life

The traditional student post-pub visit to the kebab shop is to be immortalised in a television cartoon series produced by an animation company based in Dundee University's Springfield incubator unit.

The South Park -style cartoon Kebab Kingdom will shortly be shown on BBC1 Scotland as part of the new Karen Dunbar Show .

The six-part mini-series features formidable boss Catriona, voiced by Karen Dunbar, and two assistants, one of whom is an Iraqi and the other a Kurd.

Both of them have spent years serving kebabs and other culinary delights to intoxicated Scots.

The series is the brainchild of Israeli Gili Dolev, a Dundee graduate and managing director of Ink Animations. When Mr Dolev and his wife first came to Scotland, they worked part time in a kebab shop to supplement their income while they studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, part of Dundee.

"My first impression of Scottish society was what I saw from behind the counter of a Dundee kebab shop - it was a greasy culture shock," Mr Dolev said.

His film, Promise Land , on the Arab-Israeli conflict, released last year, was also produced by Ink.
