The recent European Court ruling outlawing football transfer fees for out-of contract players could have a particularly damaging effect in Scotland, according to economist Peter Sloane. Professor Sloane, vice principal of Aberdeen University, said Scottish clubs were more vulnerable since they could not raise funds by selling players after their contracts ended, while players were likely to gravitate to wealthier English clubs. He will publish a report on the economics of sport next month.
