'Research inactive' given last chance

(Photograph) - Academics at Queen's University in Belfast yesterday began their fight against more than 100 redundancies, as their vice-chancellor George Bain (above) revealed his restructuring plan.

Senior staff who have been branded "research inactive" - the majority of whom are over 50 - were being given individual hearings to prove research activity, or lose their jobs, in the second stage review of the restructuring process.
