Rally fights job cuts at Reid Kerr College

The Educational Institute of Scotland has held a rally opposing compulsory redundancies at Reid Kerr College in Paisley. The college says it must cut 46 lecturer posts in the wake of a report by independent consultants sent in by the Scottish Office to investigate a Pounds 1.6 million budget shortfall. It says the job losses, 12 fewer than recommended, are among measures needed to win a Pounds 1.1 million loan from the Scottish Office. A college spokesman said management and unions had agreed to work together to avoid compulsory redundancies.
