I have participated in numerous conférences and I do know when a conference is predatory or not.It seems that most of those who attend them are aware of the situation .
I am rather bewildered by this. First, in my subject (psychology / business) presenting at a conference would play no part in a hiring decision. Only published papers matter. Second, staff (especially junior staff) have to justify attendance at conferences to be supported by the institution and this should weed them out. Unless people pay their own fees - which would be rash. And finally, the good conferences are pretty obvious as they are supported or run by learned societies. Am I missing something here?
