Participation hits 43%

The official participation rate for higher education stands at 43 per cent of 18-30 year olds, the Government confirmed this week. The number of students has increased by 44,000 since 1999, Higher Education Minister Bill Rammell said. "The Government remains committed to moving towards the 50 per cent target - it is a social and economic necessity."
