This is a wake-up call for University managements and governance, at least by way of close attention now having to be paid by the Risk/Audit Committee so as to control a U’s potential liability - eg insurers will not keep paying out for the legal fees and any ET award where a U fails to get its act together over all this. And academic freedom does not cover academics ranting from a soap-box in a Twitter-storm of unscholarly abuse once a colleague transgresses beyond the group-think.
