Nobody should be forced to resign for holding an opinion, we do not live in G Orwell's 1984 Thought Crime world. or do we?
The only suggestions of impropriety here are "protests" and a "toxic environment". "Toxic environment" is too vague for me to seriously comment on: could be a reference to these student protests, to sincere disagreements between colleagues.... the only specific socalled issue being raised seems to be that students were protesting. The suggestion that students' right to protest should be curtailed is the clearest attack on free speech here. Students have the right to protest, some professors may hate it or disagree, but it's part of the democratic process and must be defended by the university and the courts.
